The first sign that camp season is approaching: WeCan!
This year, over 110 volunteers gathered in Vărșag, at the camp location, for a training weekend dedicated to them. The Amics got familiar with camp activities, their roles at camp, camp rules, and our main working method — recreational therapy.
On the first day, returning volunteers had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the Cottage Elves and Program Coordinator roles, as well as to practice applying recreational therapy within their own camp programs. Day two began with medical preparation and a recreational therapy deep-dive session, after which participants split into role-based groups to learn about their specific camp responsibilities. Cottage Elves worked on the camp schedule and daily routine with the children, learned new communication techniques, deepened their understanding of the evening discussion concept, and ran a simulation of one such activity. Playful Elves prepared alongside their experts: they checked equipment against the recently completed inventory, ran simulations of their activities, and learned about applying recreational therapy.
Of course, alongside the theoretical side of things, volunteers also enjoyed plenty of games, team-building activities, socialising moments and — they learned the camp dance!
It was an intense weekend, full of hard work, but also fun, connections, and friendships born. Now we can't wait for camp to begin!
