Yuppi Camp volunteers brought all kinds of playful, fun, and creative activities to children hospitalized in the ward. From board games to crafting snowflake-shaped figurines to painting with cotton swabs, the Yuppi Camp activities succeeded in bringing joy to the little ones and grown-ups alike.
"I was so happy to meet the children — and to see some of them again — and to read the enthusiasm on their faces. Their curiosity fascinated me, and the ease with which they made friends with our volunteers filled me with joy," shares Mara Oniga, coordinator of the hospital activities project.
"I love the moment when we organize ourselves, roll up our sleeves, and start setting up the space for the workshops. Even though we never know how many children will take part, every time I feel a great openness from them — a desire to get to know us and to play together. This time I particularly enjoyed that we managed to play attention games and board games together. We laughed, we joked, and we even listened to a few Christmas carols.
One moment that stayed with me was when a child wanted to go up to the ward but his caregiver wasn't with him. Immediately, the other parents mobilized — they knew exactly who the child's mother was and called for her without hesitation. I felt a great sense of solidarity in that moment, a lot of patience, and also their courage to keep going forward together.
Many children told us they had to stay three weeks in the hospital before they could go home. It was moving to be able to step into their world for a little while… and it filled me with gratitude that, even if just for a short time, we managed to bring a smile to their faces," confides Kinga Bakos, a volunteer.
Activities in children's hospitals will continue this year as well — stay close, we'll be back soon with more updates and testimonies!
